Vernon and Lake Country are going to help each other fight fires.
The municipalities have signed a mutual aid agreement that allows their fire departments to provide personnel, equipment and resources to one another during large-scale emergencies, complex incidents or when additional support is needed.
“This agreement formalizes the collaboration that has existed for years between our departments,” said Vernon Fire Chief David Lind in a news release. “It enhances our ability to share resources, improve coordination and ensure effective response when it matters most.”
“In 2023, Vernon Fire Rescue Services was among the first to support the Lake Country Fire Department during the initial response to the Clarke Creek Wildfire,” said Lake Country Fire Chief Darren Lee.
“In 2024, our departments once again joined forces to battle multiple wildfires sparked by a lightning storm that impacted both Carrѻý Landing and Predator Ridge. These back-to-back responses highlight the strength and reliability of our partnership.”
The agreement also includes provisions for joint training opportunities, knowledge sharing and collaboration on emergency planning.
