After radio silence for two weeks, Okanagan Granfondo Penticton officials issued a follow-up statement about the death of a cyclist at this monthѻý event.
“In all the years we’ve operated Okanagan Granfondo Penticton we’ve never had a tragedy of this magnitude,” said Jodi Cross, executive director of the event, in a statement released Tuesday.
“Our work now is to provide support and care to our cyclists, volunteers and staff who have been impacted by the incident.”
Cross said the event has been in personal contact with the victimѻý family as well as the two other cyclists injured in the crash, both who have now been released from the hospital.
Participants of the event have received two emails with follow up information should they require support and how to access it, as well as the offer to connect with a special RCMP line specific to trauma assistance.
Itѻý unknown if the race or the City of Penticton, partners in the event, will be facing any legal action.
