The “ceremonial landing and celebratory arrival” of the plane, dubbed ‘Miss El’, will be held at the Hotel Eldorado between 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m.
“This iconic Canadian aircraft embodies a rich history of innovation, resilience, and community release,” states a release.
ѻý-based Argus Properties Ltd. contributed toward restoration of the plane, which was done by Sealand Aviation in Campbell River. Over the past winter, the plane was housed at KF Aerospace's Centre for Excellence.
“Restoring ‘Miss El’ is not just about bringing an aircraft back to life - it is about celebrating a legacy that continues to inspire generations,” said Ted Callahan, president and CEO of Argus Properties Ltd.
First manufactured in 1947, the de Havilland Beaver, with its sturdy design and short take-off and landing capabilities, has been used primarily as a bush plane, for both cargo and passenger purposes.
More than 1,600 of the planes were made before production at the original assembly line ceased in 1967, and many of the aicrafter are still in service worldwide.
In 1987, it was named one of the Top 10 Canadian engineering achievements of the 20th Century by the Canadian Engineering Centennial Board.
People will be able to take sightseeing tours about ‘Miss El’. The Hotel Eldorado will mark its 100th anniversary next year.
