Right now is a big chapter in the lives of Felix Irnich and Jenna Woldenga – the ѻý couple just published their first graphic novel earlier this week, and they were invited to present at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend.
Their journey started as avid fans of Dungeon & Dragon, who launched a YouTube channel in 2017 called @DingoDoodles to share D&D adventures through animation and narration. The channel is doing quite well, having amassed 800K subscribers.
Irnich and Woldengaѻý graphic novel – Foolѻý Gold: Into the Bellowing – hit the shelves on July 22. And not just a handful of bookstores – it was published by Simon & Schuster, so you can find it across Canada and the US at Walmarts, Targets, and Barnes and Nobles.
And while itѻý the coupleѻý debut graphic novel, the couple is already selling it through corporate distributors thanks to their large and loyal fanbase, which crowdfunded nearly $2.5M for the project. A total of 16,929 people chipped in.
Foolѻý Gold: Into the Bellowing is a drama-comedy that tells the story of a karaoke gone horribly wrong – singing so terrible it prompts the apocalypse.
And while the scenario was largely inspired by tabletop role-playing games, Woldenga says you don’t need to know anything about D&D to enjoy the graphic novel. Each page first passes a “mom test” to make sure.
Irnich and Woldenga are presenting at San Diego Comic-Con to share how they evolved their storytelling from digital screens to the pages of graphics novels.
George Lucas will be there, making his first-ever Comic-Con. An estimated 135,000 fans are expected over the four-day run.
