The Okanagan Sun are off to a blazing start in the 2025 BCFC season, and as they gear up for their third game tonight at Apple Bowl Stadium, fans are already beginning to whisper the word: streak.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. with the game being broadcast live on AM1150 with Stephen Keppler and Jason Casey calling the action. For those watching from home, the matchup will also stream on and air as the Telus Game of the Week on Channel 1981, available to all Telus customers.
For families attending in person, the ever-popular KidÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Zone returns, featuring two bouncy castles—a fan favourite for the younger crowd.
Just like last season, the defending BCFC champions find themselves at 2-0 heading into game three.
In 2024, the Sun had to claw their way through tight early matchups—squeaking past Langley 22-15 and outlasting the VI Raiders 31-24. Through those two contests, they had outscored opponents by just 14 points.
This year? A defensive masterclass. The Sun have shut out their opponents completely, posting back-to-back dominant wins and outscoring their adversaries 81-0. ItÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ not just winning—itÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ making a statement.
Stat leaders on Defence
OkanaganÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ defence has been relentless, with three players leading the BCFC in key categories:
• Linebacker Phil Palmarin: Tied for the league lead with 11 solo tackles and 2 interceptions.
• Defensive Lineman JaQuintis Summers: Leads the league with 3 sacks.
• Defensive Back Tariq Brown: Shares the top spot with 2 interceptions.
Players to Watch
The Sun defence will face a new challenge this weekend in the form of the Prince George Kodiaks, who enter the game with momentum after a 33-13 win over Kamloops.
Quarterback Sawyer Thiessen leads the Kodiaks offense, racking up 344 yards of total offense last week—208 through the air and 146 on the ground. His primary weapon in the backfield, RB Gavin Halvorson, notched 110 yards and 2 touchdowns on 19 carries.
Thiessen spread the ball efficiently, finding eight different receivers. Key contributors included:
• WR Ben Fehr: 3 receptions, 42 yards
• R Carson Briere: 2 receptions, 36 yards, 1 touchdown
• R Matthew Sturgess: 2 receptions, 44 yards
Defensively, the Kodiaks also shined, intercepting three passes and showcasing LB Caiden Crow, who logged 5 solo tackles, 1 assist, a special teams stop, a pass knockdown, and 1 interception.
Offensive firepower
Matching their defensive dominance, the Sun have been equally lethal on offence.
Running back Gerren Hardisty leads the league in rushing yards (194) and rushing touchdowns (4), and heÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ tied for the most points scored and touchdowns overall.
Quarterback Liam Kroeger has been sharp, completing 60.4% of his passes (29 of 48) for 454 yards, 2 touchdowns, and just 1 interception. His top target has been WR Jordayne Falconer, who has racked up 171 yards on 7 receptions.
With two dominant wins behind them and the home crowd behind them, the Okanagan Sun look to continue their perfect run.
Tonight at the Apple Bowl promises fireworks—and not just in the KidÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Zone.
